Brick is known for its durability and timeless beauty, but if you live in Georgia, there’s one thing that can tarnish even the nicest masonry: red clay stains. These rust-colored streaks are more than just an eyesore — they’re notoriously stubborn and difficult to remove with standard cleaning methods.
At Blue Mane Exterior Services, we recently tackled this exact issue at a property in Athens, GA, where red clay had deeply embedded into the brick over time. Our solution? A professional acid wash — designed specifically to remove mineral-heavy stains without damaging the brick underneath.
🧪 Why Acid Washing Works on Clay-Stained Brick
Red clay contains iron oxide, which bonds to porous surfaces like brick and concrete. That’s why pressure washing alone often isn’t enough. Acid washing, when done professionally, safely breaks down these mineral deposits and lifts the stain from the surface — restoring the original color and texture of the brick.
Our process includes:
- A tailored cleaning solution applied with care
- Controlled pressure and rinsing techniques to protect the brick
- Neutralization and rinse-down to ensure safety and long-term results

This client had dealt with red clay staining for years. After our service, their exterior brickwork looked crisp, clean, and like new — with zero damage to the surface.
⚠️ Why DIY Acid Washing is Risky
Acid cleaning should never be attempted without proper knowledge, equipment, and safety protocols. The wrong solution or technique can:
- Etch or discolor the brick
- Damage surrounding landscaping
- Leave chemical residues behind
Trusting a professional ensures not only results, but peace of mind.
